X-clamp Fix For RROD

RROD or Red Ring Of Death is a massive problem with the design in the xbox 360.

It is caused by "cold" solder joints in the 360 motherboard which cause a connection problem when the xbox 360 overheats.

Micro$oft have used the worst possible thermal compound between the heatsinks and the Graphics and CPU chips. This causes the xbox 360 to overheat and causes the solder joints to reflow and go "cold this in turn creates the 3 red lights to appear on the 360.

Theres two options to take here.

Option 1 : there is the usual return policy for micro$oft. All console are covered by a 3 year warranty for Red Ring Of Death. You can phone up micro$oft and they'll replace it within 3 weeks providing your warranty sticker is still intact .

Option 2 : For people who have removed their warranty sticker to have the console modded or to add extra fans or what not. You have the X-clamp fix, the fix was created to provide better contact between the CPU and GPU chips on the motherboard and their terribly undersized heatsinks. If you fall into this option, heres how to do the fix.

For a start you'll need to buy a few things, you can source some of the parts from your local DIY store and the rest you'll need to get from the internet or your local PC store.

Heres a breif list of what you'll need.

1). An Xbox 360 suffering from the RROD.

2). A tube of Arctic Silver 5 Thermal compound.

3). The Articlean set with the surface cleaner and surface purifier along with some cotton buds.

4). Two Torx screwdrivers T9 & T10 in size.

5). 8 x 10mm Screw (M5)16 x Nylon washers (M6)

6). Small Flatblade Screwdriver or a pair of needlenose pliers.

7). Plenty of time and patience.

For a start, you'll need to open up your 360 console.
There is so many tutorials on the internet for opening up your 360,
I dont have enough space here or i would have made one myself.
heres a link :
Once youve got the case open and covered up any wounds that may have occured from doing so.
(Thanks Micro$oft).
TO BE CONTINUED.

Team Xecuter Connectivity Kit v3 With Lite On Support.

With Micro$oft releasing the new Xbox 360 version and with the price drop last week theres going to be a flow of the new Lite On drives floating about.

They are un-hackable as of just now, so this spells a problem for us modders.

Team Xecuter have came out with a new Conectivity Kit v3.

This now enables us to read the drive key from the Lite On drives without having to use the home made devices such as the MAX3232 Key Extractor. Once we have the key, we can then reflash another drive with the key and use it in the new 360 console.

There is also two versions of the XCK v3 for sale, The Pro Version and the Lite Version.

Flashed John's Xbox

Going to college with folk, you tend to tell them about yourself.

I told John about me modding 360's and he jumped at the chance of being able to play backups.

Arranged a price for my time, I ended up with a nice new pack of Verbatim Dual Layers, Cheers John.

Went round and picked up his 360, a tidy wee launch console. Lucky for him, hadn't had a problem with the RROD & touch wood wont.

Took it back and cracked it open.

It was a standard Samsung MS-28, the harder of the Samsungs to flash.
Got all the files from the usual sources (Thanks Xbins).

Using iprep i loaded up the usual Ixtreme 1.4 firmware with the 5x speed for smother Video loading onto my trusty flash drive.

Rebooted onto the flash drive and dumped the firmware.
I then booted back into windows and copied over the Backup folder
Best descision i'd made that day, always back up your Original firmware when flashing, you never know what might happen.

Booted back onto the Iprep loader onto my flash drive ready to flash the hacked firmware onto his DVD ROM drive, I went onto flash the drive and all the banks went to 100% perfectly. I was happy about this, no problems so far.

Shut down the PC & the 360, unhooked the cables from my VIA SATA card and went onto setting up the 360.

Tested it with my Army Of Two backup, I do own an original so im not breaking any laws here ;]

Put the console back together and jumped back down to John's with it.

Yet another happy customer.

Tip: Dont use a floppy when flashing, takes ages and its not a good feeling when your waiting for something to flash, better of spending a couple of quid and getting a flash drive. Works a million times faster.

X360MODS IS BORN.

X360MODS

Started as part of my course at college.
So i've decided to dedicate it to modifying the Xbox 360 console.
A hobby ive been doing for a few years now.

Bit of background :

I've always been a big gaming enthusiast, ever since the release of the PSX.
Sucessfully modded my first console in 2006, being my own Xbox console with the DuoX2 Chip.
From there its kind of flourished into a hobby and now even a buisness.

I've been flashing and doing case mods for the X360 for just over a year now.
Mostly doing flashes and X-clamp fixes for the dreaded Red Ring Of Death.

If your wanting any mods done, feel free to contact me.
